We enjoy the current knowledge, ideas, fresh eyes, enthusiasm, and excitement interns bring to our workplace.

Student interns bring a different kind of energy into the office and are always fun to have around. We’re excited to have these five faces with us for summer 2018!

Emma Dietrich | Intern | Architectural | Grand Forks

If her last name sounds familiar, it’s because Emma is the oldest daughter of Wayne Dietrich, principal and architect out of the Grand Forks office. Emma recently completed her first year at NDSU and said it was great.

“It went by so fast. My classes were a lot of fun and were very interesting and time consuming.”

Emma is following in her dad’s career path, pursuing an architectural degree. Emma said she decided on an architectural major because she was always interested in what her dad was working on.

“It was very cool to see what he was designing come together and become a building or particular space.”

Emma will be working on a variety of projects at EAPC to learn how an AE firm works, and she hopes to gain working experience before heading back to NDSU in the fall.

“I am excited to be part of the EAPC team!”

Emma has two younger sisters, two dogs, and enjoys playing tennis and quilting in her spare time. She also loves to spend time at the lake both in winter and summer with her family and friends.

Brandon Walters | Intern | Mechanical | Bemidji

Brandon is enrolled at UND studying Mechanical Engineering. He said he always knew he wanted to do some type of engineering when he was growing up, but wasn’t sure what branch.

“My first year of college I wanted to do Biomedical Engineering, but soon realized the medical field was not for me so I decided to switch to Mechanical and haven’t regretted the decision since.”

While at EAPC this summer, Brandon would like to learn more about what a mechanical engineer does on a day-to-day basis and all the work that goes into every process. He hopes to achieve a greater understanding of the programs that are used daily.

“I have many aspirations, and one is to graduate from college and become an ‘adult’. My long-term aspiration is to continue working for EAPC and work my way up to the top.”

Brandon said he is a huge volleyball fanatic, currently playing for the UND Men’s team. He also enjoys just about any other sport, including hockey, football, and baseball.

Chris Rethemeier | Intern | Architectural Drafting | Grand Forks

Chris is attending Northland Community & Technical College for architectural drafting with intentions to graduate spring 2019. While working construction for two years as an electrician, Chris realized he wanted to “draw buildings rather than build them.” As he works through the summer months at EAPC, Chris hopes to learn the daily tasks of a drafter and get a better understanding for the job.

“I look forward to finishing school, and then starting my career.”

Since 2016, Chris has been a security officer for the UND police department. His main duties include securing buildings, locking gates, and escorting students and faculty. Chris also spends his leisure time model building and painting, and said his newest hobby is his aquarium.

Ronnie Herrera | Intern | Architectural | Sioux Falls

In 2016 Ronnie received an Associate in Applied Science in Architectural Engineering Technology from Southeast Technical Institute in Sioux Falls.

“After obtaining my Associates, I learned that designing and creating environmental spaces was in my nature and something I really enjoy, so I decided to further my education.”

Ronnie is currently attending NDSU to pursue his Masters in Architecture. He said that while in school, students do not get exposed to the actual work of an architect, so he is excited to get this working experience from EAPC this summer.

Ronnie aspires to own his own business down the road and focus on environmental design.

“I wish to create a future for the actual present without taking it from our children’s future.”

Ronnie enjoys singing, playing guitar and other instruments.

Gabe Sandy | Intern | Accounting| Grand Forks

Gabe is attending UND pursuing a degree in Accountancy and Managerial Finance and is on track to graduate spring 2019. He said he always liked math and numbers and he knew going into college that he wanted to get a business degree.

“I knew there were many opportunities in the accounting field and I thought it would be a good challenge with many future possibilities.”

Gabe began his internship with EAPC in April and said he enjoys creating the accounts payable invoices and scanning and entering previous projects.

“I look forward to applying the skills I am learning in the accounting program at UND and I hope to learn more about EAPC and do whatever is asked of me to help the team out. I want to learn something new every day.”

After college Gabe said he will study for the CPA exam and continue working in the accounting field. In the meantime, Gabe said he will tap in to his interests including fishing, hunting, being at the lake, attending concerts, and enjoying sports.
