UJ Place provides additional housing and opportunities to expand on the student experience

The new five story building is located on campus and calls the hockey arena and basketball arena neighbors. With the proximity to events at both venues, the first floor of the building was designed for commercial spaces such as retail, bar and grill, office space, or recreational facilities.

Each apartment unit was designed to provide flexibility for the tenants with open kitchen-dining-living areas and a central movable countertop in the kitchen. This flexibility allows each tenant to make the space their own, especially since this may be the first home-away-from-home for students. The space will have a modern feel, both in the units and the residential lobbies.

The nearly 75,000 SF complex, owned and operated by EPIC Companies, will provide the university with 56 units for a total of 112 beds. The complex will house one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom apartments. The four one-bedroom units measure 630 SF per unit while the 48 two-bedroom units range between 850-900 SF. The four three-bedroom units are 1,190 SF.

The exterior palette of materials and building pattern were chosen to connect to the nearby buildings at the University of Jamestown, complete with a brick façade and stone cornices. The upper portion of the building includes a combination of vertical metal panel and horizontal fiber cement panel to reduce the scale of the building while tying in with the brick base.

The building includes underground parking, approximately 16,212 SF of space on the first floor for retail/service industry tenants, and 62,952 SF of residential space.

UJ Place opened to house students Fall 2020 at the start of the school year.
