Kimberly Matteson’s journey to becoming a licensed architect was not a traditional one.

After working in the industry for more than 15 years, Kimberly was tired of not being able to call herself an Architect despite her education and experience. She decided it was time to start cramming for those exams.

“I knew it was going to be challenging to find time to study with the busy schedules of our two kids and active family life. However, my husband assured me that he was committed to this as well and would help me find the time to study.”

Through this process, Kimberly learned not to rush things. She realized it would not work to schedule tests in the spring or summer when her family was at their peak for activities or around major holidays as she just could not concentrate on studying and focus properly. After finding a balance between studying, family, and the demands of a full-time job, Kimberly soon realized it was going to take longer than she had anticipated. It took three years to complete all six tests–three in the old 4.0 system before transitioning to 5.0 to finish the rest.

“My kids and husband were my biggest cheerleaders and encouragement throughout this challenging process and can’t thank them enough for all their support. I am still smiling with excitement that I’m finally done and can call myself an architect!”

Congratulations Kimberly!
