As the Structural Engineering Department Manager, you will accomplish department objectives by managing staff as well as planning and evaluating department activities to meet company objectives and customer satisfaction. You will manage the structural engineering department to provide appropriate staff resources to support project teams and projects which meet project scope, budget, and schedule.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an ABET Engineering Program Required
  • Licensed PE Engineer
  • NSPE Member
  • 8–12 Years of Engineering Experience
  • Highly Creative Skills
  • Experience with Design Detailing, and Construction Documentation
  • Excellent Presentation Skills
  • Excellent Communication and Follow Through Skills
  • Excellent Design Skills and Attention to Detail

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Leads Engineering teams to develop leading edge, innovative design solutions
  • Enthusiastically works with clients, vendors, and architectural/engineering team to interpret and evaluate client requirements for successful project design
  • Supervises, mentors, and leads departmental staff and addresses staff performance concerns
  • Exhibits a passion for design, innovation and thought leadership with regard to workplace strategy
  • Researches materials and concepts to advise and support the design team on technical issues
  • Collaborates and communicates effectively and professionally with multidisciplinary team members and clients as required
  • Coordinates with other disciplines to provide one unified efficient final design
  • Reviews material submittals and conducts on-site observations
  • Organizes, plans, and prioritizes work
  • Manages staff schedules to meet company efficiency expectations, minimize overhead and costs, and meet project milestones

  • Coordinte with Project Coordinators and Project Managers to establish and meet department project budgets and deadlines with the assistance of  Deltek Vision project management application
  • Analyzes Quality Control processes by conducting tests and inspections of services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies
  • Participates and assists the marketing of new clients and job opportunities
  • Assists in preparing job proposals
  • Participates in recruitment, selection, onboarding, mentoring and training of new employees
  • Participates in staff performance evaluations
  • Estimates fees, determines scope of work and prepares proposals and contracts for discipline

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

Position may require extended periods of sitting, standing, and/or walking. Position may require travel up to 20-30% of the work week, including occasional overnight stays out of town. Must have a willingness to work in construction sites and outdoor environments. Position may require occasional evenings and weekends, with overtime expectations of approximately 10%, varying with workload. This position may involve handling challenging situations. Position may require occasionally lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds, with rare lifting and carrying of up to 50 pounds.
