EAPC welcomes Tom Jones to our Bemidji office as a structural designer
Tom has come out of retirement to work at EAPC part time (in the office Monday’s and works remotely other days) to assist with our structural department needs, particularly providing design for light commercial projects.
After his military career, Tom wore two hats, working as a structural engineer and architectural liaison for Shimmer Associates In Omaha. He then continued in this dual role for Stewart and Walker In Bemidji. Tom later became self-employed and consulted for Lucachick Architecture, MJ Architecture, Karvakko Engineering, Widseth Smith Nolting, and all of Bemidji, before retiring.
Tom said he continues to enjoy his career as an engineer.
“I enjoy filling a need for people in areas they are not comfortable to do themselves.”
Tom recalled a project from the past that posed some challenges but was most rewarding.
“I worked on this pedestrian over-pass In Thief River Falls. The overpass crosses from the old Falls theater, which became a small mall, to a bank building. The structure was deep laminated wood beams that you walked between. Because the structure was elevated it required an elevator for access. That elevator was an interesting project to insert into an old building.”
Tom said he enjoys recreational flying and does so often in his experimental aircraft that he built.
