Congratulations Amanda Carpenter and the rest of the UND SHRM team who took first place in the Fargo SHRM Case Competition!

UND SHRM had two teams compete against teams invited from ND, SD, and MN. All teams were given one week to analyze a case and present their understanding and solution to a panel of three judges.

The case scenario involved a filmed employee conflict between flight attendants on an airplane. The airline changed their recruitment strategy so it no longer reflected their staffing strategy. Ultimately, there was a lack of communication, training, and development between the airline and its employees. Amanda’s team discussed what the airline should have done to prevent it and what they should do as a company moving forward to fix the problem.

Teams presented a background of the case, major problems, minor problems, three solutions, the recommended solution, and proposed implementation of the solution.

Both teams represented UND incredibly well. Amanda shares,

“I’m incredibly proud of our teams for representing UND and SHRM with such professionalism, teamwork, and sportsmanship. This was an excellent experience for us to network and learn from others in our field who share the same passion for Human Resources.”
