EAPC welcomes John Spohn, Interior Architectural Designer, to our St. Paul office.

John has over 28 years of experience in a wide range of healthcare design projects and has been recognized nationally for his design. John says that design is achieved by creating innovative interior environments with a purpose, with spaces that work extremely well, and enhancing the experience of those who use them.

“I devote my energy to understanding the client, the attributes of the project, the program, and the project outcomes.”

John was the Director of Healthcare Interiors for Perkins + Will for nearly 30 years. His long term goal is to improve the design quality of our firm through his previous experience and mentor those at EAPC who are involved with interior design. John’s primary advice to fellow designers is to never give in to a “less than” design as quality design can be done even if the budgets are slim or time frame limited.

John says that after 30 years in the business, what he enjoys most about his profession is that the work and clients are continually changing, keeping him engaged to perform at his best. One of John’s most exciting projects he has been associated with is the “Adopt a Room” project at the University of Minnesota Children’s Hospital in Fairview, MN. This project attempted to recreate a positive patient room environment for terminally ill children and their families.

“It won many national and international awards, however, the best feeling is knowing that it has changed the way designers and architects have used pieces of this design to improve the quality of patient room designs for the future.”

When not in design mode, John enjoys the outdoors biking, hiking, camping, and playing tennis. John and his wife have two sons, three daughters, and six grandchildren.

Welcome to EAPC, John!
