EAPC was retained to provide engineering services for the Limestone Coonversion Project at the R.M. Heskett Power Station near Mandan, North Dakota.
The project involved designing a mechanical belt conveying system to transfer granular limestone to the Unit 2 fluidized bed boiler, replacing the previous bed media, river sand, and providing a mechanism for SO2 capture. System and design areas covered in the project included limestone receiving and handling, fly ash re-injection, dust collection, electrical, controls, and associated buildings and structures.
EAPC Services Project management, mechanical engineering, civil/structural engineering, electrical engineering, estimating and scheduling. The mechanical engineering portion included equipment layout; mechanical plans and elevation drawings of the limestone handling system; fly ash re-injection plans, drawings and engineering; dust collection system plans drawings and engineering; equipment procurement. The civil/structural engineering portion included coordinating with equipment suppliers to provide appropriate design of framing and foundations to support the equipment; designing the various pits, bin foundation, and miscellaneous structures including access stairs and catwalks. The electrical engineering portion included a 480-volt distribution system for new limestone conveyors including instrumentation and controls as well as a review of the existing electrical power distribution system and the existing electrical control system to ensure that new equipment would be compatible with the existing equipment. EAPC's services also included providing a total cost estimate and developing a design and construction schedule.
